Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. ~Henry Ford
I have until recently been a distant admirer of the crochet phenomenon that seems to be sweeping the world. Today however I entered the circle! I went to a 3 hour crochet class. Thirty years ago I made a blanket with my late Nan and if I could do it then surely I could relearn. I guess my brain is a bit slower now. There were 5 of us in the class and some seemed to grasp it a lot quicker than me. After a lot of extra help from a great teacher I managed a medallion using a double crochet stitch and a bracelet using treble stitch.
The most successful item was a flower that has actually got two layers. The top was supposed to be smaller but somehow mine ended up the same. You can just see it in green poking out the side. There's also a purple patch. I cut the wool a bit too early and had a double coloured flower. Oops! I think the double colour actually made it a lot easier to see where to poke the hook though.
I've got lots of course notes and a hook. I will definitely give it another go before I forget all that I did manage to learn.
I have a new found awe for all those who can crochet properly.

I did not realise how many different ways you could crochet. I am inspired.
Please let me know if you have any top tips for a beginner or any online resources that you would recommend. A complete idiots guide perhaps!
Do keep at it. It's well worth it
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for including my corsages in your feature gallery.
ReplyDeleteI'm a great believer in trying new things, so good on you! I am learning embroidery, but in my own odd and unfathomable way. LOL! I am self taught knitted, crocheter (if that is a word) and now embroiderer, go with the flow. There are no mistakes, just new expierences.
